Over time, skin tends to lose some of its elasticity on areas of the face and body. During this time fat volume can also be lost. This results in volume loss, striations, creases, and depressed areas that can make the individual appear tired or drawn. It is also common for lips to lose their volume and appear thinner as we age.

Fat transfer, also known as “Autologous Fat Transplantation” or “Micro–Lipoinjection” can be used to correct many of these areas, as well as to improve acne scarring. During the procedure, fat is harvested from one part of the body such as the abdomen, and injected into the areas that have lost volume, such as the temples, cheeks, or lips. Fat transfer is the preferred method of volume restoration in patients hesitant about using prepared fillers and products such as Restylane, Juvederm, and Radiesse.
