Laser Hair Reduction
One of the most commonly sought cosmetic procedures today is laser hair reduction, also referred to some as “laser hair removal”. We refer to it as “reduction” rather than “removal” to emphasize that it is a stepwise process of reducing the hair growth in a given treated area of the body. When looking into laser hair reduction, we emphasize that the result can be obtained in several ways, using modalities such as a hair removal laser, intense pulsed light (IPL) that targets the hair follicles, or electrolysis.
The hair has three phases of being: anagen, catagen, and telogen. The anagen, or active growth, phase is when the hair begins to grow. This is the phase that is treated with laser or IPL. If all of the hairs in a given area were synchronized in this phase, it would take a single well timed treatment to remove the hair from an area. Unfortunately, this is not the case, with hair of all of the cycles being represented in a given area, leading to the necessity of repeated treatments that sequentially reduce the amount of hair growing in a particular area. There may even be a few follicles left after a full course (4-8 treatments, depending on area and response) that need to be treated with electrolysis.
Facial laser hair reduction treatments are all performed by Dr. Summit Kundaria, in contrast to many other providers, where treatments are typically done by aestheticians or nurses.
